Feb. 28 update:
Sumilao farmers back again!

The Sumilao farmers composed of Mapadayunong Panaghiusa sa Lumad Alang sa Damlag (MAPALAD) and  San Vicente Landless Farmers Association (SALFA), who walked from San Vicente, Sumilao, Bukidnon to Manila for 70 days starting October 10, 2007 to fight for the land which rightfully belongs to them, are back!

A total of 144 Sumilao farmers will go to Manila tomorrow (February 28, 2008) to personally deliver their demands from the commitment that PGMA has given to them, i.e., the 144-hectare land in Sumilao.

The farmers will travel from San Vicente Sumilao tomorrow (Feb. 28, 2008) at 6 a.m. to Cagayan de Oro City and will go directly to the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR)-  Regional Office at Macanhan to have a symbolic dismantling of the camp they have put up there since January 3. At 8:30 a.m. they will go to Xavier University for a mass/blessing at the chapel as a send-off mass for the farmers who are determined to take back their land. And on the same day at 3 p.m., they will be departing to Manila.

SUPPORT MARTSA SUMILAO! See you there!
