A Peace Room opens for
peace advocates

| The Peace
Room |
Inside the Balay Mindanaw
Peace Center is a facility which aims to advance initiatives in
peace-building at the community level and in the peace process. The
Peace Room will provide an area for greater learning as well as
access to resource materials on peace and other related information
related to peace-building initiatives.
A 60.43-sq.m. peace room may
be a small area to talk about big issues like peace, but this will
not limit peace workers and advocates to think big and envision
peace.
This room aims to contribute
further to Balay Mindanaw’s mission of helping build empowered
sustainable communities, helping build peace in Mindanao. It is
intended to be an integral part of the continuing peace-building and
capability-building programs of BMFI and the rest of the Balay
Mindanaw Group of NGOs by providing a venue for the continuing
interventions towards peace and development.
Funded by the German
Development Service (ded-Philippines), this initiative came about in
response to the increasing need and demand of Balay Mindanaw
programs and interventions. This was clearly emphasized during the
Peace Forum Workshop and eagerly discussed among the stakeholders of
Balay Mindanaw. Officers and staff of BMFI, RCED, BDSI and BALAOD
Mindanaw, including members of the Board of Trustees, participated
in the said workshop which was held last September 23-25, 2004 at
the Harbor Lights Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City.
