| “Continue
to learn peace, continue to talk, continue to dialogue for
peace.” This was the call of the 30 OPKORS! participants
coming from the military, police and non-government
organizations from Cotabato, Maguindanao, Zamboanga, Lanao and

| Thomas
Boehlke, Navy Commander of the German Armed Forces Command
and Staff College and a visiting fellow of Balay Mindanaw,
joins the International Center for Peace (ICPeace) in Mindanaw
in the conduct of the Operation Peace Course (Sept. 12-17) and Recall
Session on Peace Building and Conflict Management (Sept.
19-20). He talked on the topic “Military’s Role and
Approaches to Contemporary Conflicts.” He shared that
contemporary (internal) conflicts require a new set of skills
for the military “war-fighter.” It is the understanding of
the conflict dynamics that need to be complemented by conflict
management skills to break away from the old and failed
patterns of dealing with present conditions and to regain
people’s trust and thus avoid renewed escalation. |
