| At an evacuation center in Bulao, Iponan. |
Today, the last day of 2011,
we are taking time off from our relief work to be with our families
and loved ones in celebrating the year that is drawing to a close,
and welcoming 2012 with hope and determination to help build a
better world.
We will resume our operations
on January 2, 2012.
Last December 29, we again
distributed our Relief Assistance Packages containing non-food items
(hygiene set) to 284 families, or 1,420 individuals) in four
community centers (Iponan, Kauswagan, Canitoan, Bulua). We also
distributed additional 60 boxes of high-energy biscuits and 3,840
bottles of 500ml drinking water in these centers. Another 27 kitchen
sets containing cooking pot, frying pan and basin, were distributed
in Canitoan and 32 sets of clothing in the covered court in Iponan.
Yesterday, we distributed
Non-Food Relief Assistance to 50 families in Bonbon, along with 15
boxes of high-energy biscuits, 960 bottles of 500ml water and 32
sets of clothing. The Medical Team from General Santos and Sarangani
also joined us in Bonbon.
The Balay Mindanaw volunteers
also distributed hygiene sets to 164 families and plumpy ‘doz to
85 children in Canitoan today.
Additional goods and medicines
from Mr. Jun Gueverro and Mr. Honmar and Eleonor Que came in, as
well as cash donations from Gay Arenal, Lootah BCG, Aying Asis, Oona
Paredes, Alice Colina, Corazon Zamora and friends, Luz Quiocho
Mojica, and the Japan-Philippines NGO Network / Asian Community
Center 21 (ACC21).
We wish to very sincerely
thank our friends, volunteers, donors, supporters, and all those who
continue to hold hands with us as we reach out to the survivors of
the Sendong tragedy in Cagayan de Oro city.
We refuse to be victims. We
choose to be resources.
May we all have a better and
more blessed new year.
