| Survivors now settled at Tent Community
1 in Barangay Indahag. |
Even on a Sunday, the flurry
of activities continue at the Balay Mindanaw Opererations Center as
BM workers and volunteers perform various tasks such as
housekeeping, hauling crates of goods, repacking relief kits,
assessment and planning meetings, report-writing, etc.
Yesterday was a truly
significant and meaningful day as we saw the opening of the first
BM-assisted tent community in Barangay Indahag. The first 40-tent
community was set up by BM volunteers, local residents and DAI
volunteers. At around 5pm, the community of Indahag, joined bay
various support groups, welcomed 36 displaced to their temporary
shelter as they await permanent resettlement in housing projects.
Today, we are setting up a
35-tent community also in Barangay Indahag. It is expected the next
batch of displace families will finally be able to move in by late
afternoon.
We have become not just
peacebuilders, but also tent-builders.
These two tent communities
will be added to Balay Mindanaw’s special focus of support and
care.
Tomorrow, we will be
distributing school supplies kits to 1,352 school children in
Barangays Canitoan, Kauswagan and Bonbon.
The sight of tons of relief
goods from all over the world, literally flooding the entire BM
Peace Center, waiting to be repacked and distributed is simply
overwhelming. Indeed, the empathy through these acts of generosity
is so real, genuine and inspiring.
Again and again, we say:
Thanks! Daghang Salamat…
We refuse to be victims. We
choose to be resources.
